Master Class with Dany Sanz and The Powder Group — Beauty by Chelsea Dae
On Thursday, August 30th, I had the extreme pleasure of attending Dany Sanz: The Master Class, hosted by The Powder Group! Dany Sanz is the founder of the makeup brand MAKE UP FOR EVER and is a true artist! She was actually an artist before she became a makeup artist. During the first part of her class, she explained how she transitioned from artistry to makeup artistry, but also how she incorporates her artistry into her makeup artistry. She even took the time to create a few illustrations for us!!
She then began creating a look on her beautiful model! She started with the fundamentals, which means taking time to analyze the face and skin and making smart decisions to build the base for the makeup look. She explained that it is important to touch and feel the skin before applying any products. Then, you can start to add products in certain areas that will help to create the shape and look that you want!
Dany's final editorial look was inspired by the beautiful dress the model was wearing. She added pops of orange, yellow, black, and white as well as strokes of liquid copper. I think what I enjoyed most about watching Dany work, was seeing how much her artistic background really shows through her work. Even though she didn't know what she was going to do when she started, each product was placed in a specific spot to get the final look. The way that her hands just glided over the models face was mesmerizing!
I was also extremely lucky to be able to attend the second portion of the class, the Hands-On Workshop!! We were paired up with other artists in the group and told to create a "fundamentals-focused look"! This meant focusing on the basics, taking time to create that perfect base before diving into the creative work. I decided to create a very glowy, sunkissed look on my beautiful model using almost all Danessa Myricks products, including her Beauty Oil in Sunray, Vision Cream Cover, Illuminating Veil in Serenity, and Vision Blush in Ballet Slippers.
After a brief discussion with Dany and Michael, we were given the chance to create editorial looks!! The Powder Group was nice enough to give us an array of products to play and work with. I basically ran towards the Mehron Makeup Metallic Powder in Gold since I had seen other artists work with it, but have never tried it myself. Mixed with a mixing liquid, this powder becomes a luxurious gilded gold liquid that just glides on the skin. I applied this with a Kryolan Art No. brush, which created some amazing contrast and texture. I also used my Viseart Grande Pro palette, my favorite matte shadow palette, for the pink and blue on the eyes and cheeks. And finally added some contrast with Danessa Myricks Oil Slick Glaze.
I left yesterday's class feeling so inspired and ready to create. I realized that I definitely need to get back to my artistry roots and that I really need to think out of the box! Thank you so much to Dany and The Powder Group team for this amazing opportunity!
