Memorial DIY Christmas Ornaments
The holidays are such a special time of year and this year they have even been more memorable with little Ava around. I teamed up with 3 of my friends to share with you fun activities you can do with your little ones and family over the holidays.
I decided to make an ornament with Ava’s foot and hand print to gift to my mom. Since she’s not on social media often this is perfect because she won’t see this blog post:)
I hope you enjoy making this ornament as much as I did. My sister in law and cousins came over with their little ones and we worked on the project together after we made lunch! It was such a lovely time. Great memories and moments shared.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
Fabric: I used drop cloth for this project. You can also use linen or cotton, or any fabric you like really. If dying it ensure it’s a light color.
Crochet Hoops- AS many as you’d like and to the desired size you want. I used a small and a medium size for m projects.
Acrylic paint- I used a dark gray but you can use any color you want.
Little hand , foot, or paw!- you’ll press these onto your fabric.
Ribbon and bells- I’m partial to velvet ribbon.
STEP 2-
Then place your fabric in the hot boiling water, turn heat off and let the fabric sit for about 2 hours. Depending on how strong you want the color you can leave it in the liquid for longer or shorter. Once ready rinse the fabric well. The color will fade some but still leave behind a tint. I really enjoyed the process and was happy to see the results.
Let the fabric dry.
STEP 3
Lay your fabric out and decide where your design will go! Use a little brush or back of a spoon to fully cover, hand, foot, or paw with pain. Then quickly press onto the fabric as well as possible. It’s hard with little hands squirming about! I found the foot to be the easiest to actually place on fabric and press down. Ava was moving around a LOT !
Pretty Pearl Ornament: (Handmade Christmas Ornament Blog Hop)
Good Morning Friends!
This has been such a busy but fun week for Joy In Our Home! This past week some of my fabulous blogging friends and I shared our Wood Slice Projects. There are some super neat ideas and projects that all begin with a single piece of wood. Now today, 30 + bloggers and I are sharing handmade ornaments! They’re all so different and unique! There are links at the bottom of this post so be sure to check out all the rest!
So excited to share this beautiful but very easy ornament with you…
You will need:
– a Styrofoam ball (your choice of size)
– bag of pearls (again, it’s totally up to you what size or color you use. I think a variety of sizes would love beautiful too)
– hot glue gun and (lots!!!!) of glue sticks
– ribbon to hang ornament
– nail
There’s really no right or wrong way to glue the pearls on the ornament. You’ll soon see a design form as you’re gluing them on. Keep gluing them on until there’s only a small space left for a nail and a few pearls that you can glue on afterwards.
Next, I took my piece of ribbon and using the glue gun, I glued the two ends together. I then took a long nail (with rivets so it would stay in the Styrofoam ball better, once inserted) and poked the nail through the ribbon.
Insert the nail into the Styrofoam ball. I then glued some more pearls around the nail and it was done! I wanted to add a little something to it so I made a bow using some tulle but you can leave it plain or add a bow.
Thank you for coming by today! Hoping your day is very wonderful!
